Biography

Nancy McGimsey has over 28 years experience painting animal portraits.  Her love of animals and nature began in her childhood.  She grew up in the foothills of North Carolina on her parents' 20-acre farm where she spent countless hours exploring and observing nature.  She exhibited considerable talent at a young age, and when she began painting it was obvious that she had a special gift for capturing animals and pets on canvas.  Nancy began studying art in high school.  She also took private lessons from a local artist and continued her art education at Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C.

In 1991, Nancy decided to specialize exclusively in pet portraits.  She renders an amazing likeness and captures the pets true personality using photographs provided by her clients.  She generally works with acrylic paints.  Nancy says, "Acrylic paints dry much faster than oils and they also lend themselves to the intricate details that I require in my work."

Nancy now lives in Nashville, Tennessee with her cat, Snugs.  When she is not painting, Nancy also enjoys singing, songwriting, playing her guitar and spending time on J. Percy Priest Lake.
